VW ID.4 Becomes ID. Tiguan: Major Facelift in 2026
Synopsis: Dit artikel is een samenvatting van content gepubliceerd door InsideEVs op 1/20/2026
VW ID.4 facelift arrives late 2026 with a surprising name change: the electric SUV will continue as ID. Tiguan. Volkswagen is moving away from numbered ID names, choosing the familiar Tiguan designation instead. The facelift is so extensive that the brand describes it as "a completely different car".
What's changing?
The updated ID.4 / ID. Tiguan receives major updates:
Exterior:
- Completely new doors
- Redesigned front and rear bumpers
- Updated headlights and taillights
- Design more aligned with the petrol Tiguan
Interior:
- Physical buttons and knobs return (including volume knob)
- New 15-inch touchscreen (was 12.9 inches)
- Improved materials
- Revised user interface
Why physical buttons?
Volkswagen admits the criticism of touch-sensitive controls was justified. The new dashboard gets real buttons back — a direct response to owner complaints about operating controls while driving.
Technical improvements
The ID. Tiguan gets the improved MEB+ platform with:
- 10% more range and efficiency
- LFP batteries in base versions (lower price)
- Improved charging speed
What does this mean for Dutch buyers?
The current ID.4 is a popular choice in the Netherlands. With prices starting at €44,990 and range up to 531 km (WLTP), it's a strong all-rounder.
Bijtelling (company car tax): The ID.4 with its catalog price above €30,000 falls in the 22% bijtelling category. At €48,000, that means €10,560 per year — €880 per month gross.
Wait or buy now? The facelift won't arrive until late 2026. Those who need an EV now can confidently choose the current ID.4. The physical buttons and larger screen are nice, but not dealbreakers.
When available?
- Europe: Late 2026
- Production: Until 2031
- Successor: 2028 on 800V platform
Note: The ID.5 (coupé variant) won't be updated and will be discontinued.
